Hi, thanks so much for taking an interest in my practice. It takes great courage and awareness to come to the decision to reach out for support. I see clients in my office in Cambridge, MA, near Davis Square, and in Melrose, MA, as well as by teletherapy/videochat. I specialize in helping people to free themselves from the 'silent conversation' that we have with ourselves throughout the day. By understanding how this conversation influences our thoughts, feelings, and actions, it is possible to adapt it to feel more empowered in life. It is my hope that your therapy experience will feel comforting, meaningful, real, and effective in getting to the heart of your core concerns. I work from an integrative framework in a warm and interactive environment, drawing from holistic, cognitive, and psychodynamic influences to help people to reclaim a sense of choice and authorship in their lives. My background includes more than 25 years in clinical healthcare, school, and community settings working therapeutically with individuals, couples, and groups on a wide-range of issues causing acute and chronic distress. Looking for support during a life change? Feeling stuck? Then let's talk. Clients say I bring calm attention, humor, & creativity to all my engagements and that I help them center, increase awareness, build resiliency practices, and recalibrate communication & action patterns that have gone off-track. I specialize/trained in mindfulness, somatic, expressive, and nature/outdoor, CBT, EMDR, DBT, multicultural and trauma-informed therapy to treat children-to-elders navigating life transitions and all the thoughts, feelings that can arise when we feel overwhelmed/stuck. A unique part of what I offer is to meet outside for walk-and-talk sessions and to explore ways that Nature can be a resource in our healing and grounding process. Nature reminds us that stability during change is possible and that we always connected to larger things in this world, seen and unseen. In the spirit of Rumi's quote "what you seek is seeking you," let's work together to move you toward whatever is searching for you.
My practice focuses supporting people in clarifying their values and in living lives that realize their deepest values. I believe that there are many ways to be mentally healthy, and I pursue a pluralistic view of mental health, one which varies from person to person. I aim to be a patient and supportive companion for you to determine what is important to you and to make meaningful change. I have worked as a professor at a number of universities in the US and abroad, and I have also worked as a social worker for young adults with mental illness. My academic and psychiatric experience makes me an ideal fit for working with students (undergraduate or graduate) who are facing life transitions or mental health challenges. Therapy is an exciting journey and it is always a pleasure to meet new or potential clients. I look forward to hearing from you.
I do my best work with LGBTQ folks who are in the midst of a big change or transition in their life, and who are looking for a safe and supportive place to both explore, and be challenged to initiate change. My expertise is in helping individuals and couples navigate a range of life experiences including: the coming out process, the transition to college, young adult identity exploration, difficulties in long-term relationships, and difficulties with family dynamics. As a queer-identifying person myself, I understand the unique complexities you may face at each of these phases and I have spent my career learning to effectively guide you through these important and challenging times. My clients describe me as warm, compassionate, and supportive. I try to incorporate humor wherever we can. My style is a blend of both working to address current challenges as well as the roots of those challenges in order to have the most effective and lasting impact. If you’re ready to take the first step towards more self-understanding and more fulfillment in your life, please get in touch! It would be my honor to help.
