Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
Welcome! Reaching out and embarking on the journey of the therapeutic process is vulnerable and incredibly brave. I work with folks who are experiencing a range of life's challenges, including OCD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and relational challenges. I also have a special interest and experience in working with perinatal concerns. I build my practice around the belief that the most impactful therapeutic work occurs when there is a strong foundation of trust and understanding between the client and therapist. I will work to create a space with you where you can feel seen, heard, and safely challenged to grow and flourish.
With a background in school counseling, I have developed a passion for supporting children, adolescents, and young adults. Through this experience, I provided short- and long-term individual counseling services, career counseling, crisis intervention, and group psychotherapy. I am particularly equipped to help clients navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, academic and social stress, career exploration, adjustment issues, self-esteem, and emotional regulation, among other general mental health concerns. Drawing on a strengths-based approach, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to guide clients in identifying their strengths, setting goals, building resilience, and developing adaptive coping strategies. I am committed to integrating therapeutic approaches and techniques that best fit each client’s needs. I believe in cultivating a therapeutic relationship through a warm, non-judgmental, collaborative environment. I strive to have clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change in their lives toward their growth and well-being. I am committed to continuous learning and professional development to better serve my clients.
Seeking therapy is a courageous act of self-care and self-discovery. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or weighed down by past wounds, unwanted thoughts, identity questions, relationship challenges, or the pressures of modern life—including the impact of technology, social media, and AI—you are not alone. I offer an affirming space to explore queerness, neurodivergence, multicultural identity, intergenerational pressures, and systems that weren’t built with you in mind. I am here to walk alongside you with compassion, warmth, and deep respect for who you are and where you come from. Together, we’ll uncover the patterns shaping your experiences, clarify what matters most to you, and develop strategies tailored to your needs. My goal is to support you in reclaiming your story, honoring your complexity, and building a life that feels authentic, sustainable, and whole. If this resonates, please reach out via email, call, or text to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation—available both in person and virtually. When you get in touch, kindly include your name, contact information, and a few dates and times that work best for you. I look forward to being a part of your journey.
Starting therapy in college can feel intimidating, especially when you're juggling classes, relationships, family expectations, and trying to figure out who you are and what you want. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure about the future, or like you're supposed to have it all together when things feel anything but. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. I work with college students who are navigating things like self-doubt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and trouble setting boundaries. In therapy, we’ll look at the patterns behind what’s keeping you stuck and find practical, manageable ways to help you feel more confident and in control. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I pull from approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help you build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and reconnect with what actually matters to you. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming and committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming space for people of all identities and backgrounds. Whether you’re coming in with a specific concern or just a feeling that something’s off, I’m here to support you through it.
I understand that reaching out for support is a big step, often taken while overwhelmed by difficult emotions. Many of my clients come to me feeling exhausted, whether it manifests as persistent worry, disconnection from loved ones, or low self-esteem. You might feel stuck, sensing that something’s off, even if you can't pinpoint exactly what it is. These feelings are common, and you are not alone. I often work with clients processing past trauma, seeking greater self-awareness, and coping with ongoing stress. My goal is to meet you where you are and support you in forging deeper connections with yourself, others, and the world. My style is attentive, honest, and often includes humor. Together, we can uncover your strengths, build resilience, and develop tools to help you regain control over your life! As a compassionate and culturally sensitive psychologist, I strive to offer a nonjudgmental and safe space to explore your unique experiences as well as to promote the self-growth and healing all human beings (yes, you!) are worthy of. Beginning the work of therapy can bring up many emotions, and I am here to be with you through all of them. I approach therapy with reverence for your lived experience, nervous system, and desires for the future. I specialize in working with teenagers through adults to address concerns related to anxiety, depression, life transitions big or small, religion and identity, and family of origin issues. I’m passionate about working with parents to explore their own histories and ties to the present, as well as individuals seeking to understand their experience of neurodivergence or that of a loved one. I utilize a psychodynamic approach and draw from relational-cultural theory, polyvagal theory, and internal family systems. This means we will wonder together about the ways past experiences and relationships impact you in the present emotionally, mentally, and physically. I'm deeply committed to maintaining an anti-racist, neurodiversity-affirming, and queer-affirming practice, considering clients and their challenges in the context of oppressive systems. I know how challenging it can be to find a therapist who feels like a good fit, and I'd love to connect with you if anything in my approach resonates with your experiences.

That fake smile is exhausting, and you’re sick of pretending that everything’s fine. On the surface, it seems like you have it all together. But all too often, you’re counting the hours until you get to pull the covers back over your head. I’ve been there, and I get it. You might be coming to therapy because of anxiety, burnout, relationship strain, or a persistent feeling of working incredibly hard just to stay afloat. Or, you may be watching yourself engage in the same behaviors over and over again...even though you know you are digging yourself into a deeper hole. As a licensed psychologist, I am most known for my work in weight management and health psychology over the last 18 years, including my former role as the CEO of a small behavioral health hospital. While weight and eating concerns may bring my clients in, our work focuses on the deeper emotional and relational patterns driving those struggles. If you are looking for a practical, no-nonsense approach to therapy, we could be a fit. Although some of my clients have been with me for years (there are always new layers to uncover), my goal is to give you the confidence to continue independently once you’re taking more of those steps on your own. Vibe checks are great - just schedule a free consult!

I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I had the great fortune to complete my field hours at UNC Psychiatry, where I offered therapy for conditions including depression, anxiety, disability, chronic pain, developmental delay, and addiction. Before I became a psychotherapist, I earned a Masters of Science in Education from Florida State University and taught in the public school system. Positive psychology is at the core of our practice, helping to elevate you beyond the neutral state and launch you into your ideal life. I specialize in helping you identify your emotions, recognize behavior patterns and the motivations behind them, then incorporating techniques to support behavior change that align with your values, carefully guiding you to become the person you strive to be.
As you prepare to address problem areas in your life, finding the right person to work with to help and support you as you move forward toward your goals, is the first step. My therapy practice focuses primarily on children, families and young adults. I believe that better communication and understanding can be key in building better relationships. Typical sessions involve the basics of support, and building on the existing strengths of a person as well as developing better techniques in managing difficult emotional problems. Psychoeducation, which involves helping to understand the mental health symptoms that are being presented and learning how to manage them, as well as skills to build deficits with anger control, social interactions and stress relief, are also taught. Working together on ways to decrease difficult symptoms, such as clients providing better self care skills, building strong coping skills and having improved perspectives is essential to a healthier well being. My role as your therapist is that through the supportive and close therapeutic relationship, you will gain insight and motivation to work toward change. I am currently licensed in NC, GA and am a Certified Telehealth Practitioner in Florida. I am only able to see clients virtually in FL and NC.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, it is an honor and privilege to walk alongside others. Through my counseling, I purpose to empower individuals to chose the path that leads to healing, wholeness, hope and renewal. I believe growth and healing are established in an atmosphere of acceptance, validation, mutual respect and psychological safety. Healing and wholeness is a journey requiring courage, intentionality and a willingness to embrace change. Connection and compassion are vital in a counseling experience. When we treat ourselves with kindness and understanding, we will be able to connect with others in a similar way. We will look at your life holistically: emotional, spiritual, physical, mental and relational. I offer a free 30-minute phone consultation to discover if we are a good match.
